The Demolition

Our plan was pretty straight forward: Take two small bedrooms and a very dated bathroom and turn them into one larger bedroom, with a walk in closet and a master bath with a walk in shower.

Through the years, I have found that each project has its own “personality” as you delve into the past. This most recent job was no different. It required a considerable amount of demolition including removing another adobe wall, removing a lath and plaster wall, removing a sizeable piece of floor, and removing an ancient cast iron bathtub. I wish it had been one of those cool ones with the feet, but alas, this house has never been known for having an abundance of expensive articles.

For years, as each demolition project has begun, we have always joked about finding “the bag of money” somewhere in a wall or hidden space. No luck so far…….

So we began to tear things apart. I saved a few bucks on the project by doing the demolition. Not sure if that was a great idea or not, but we had fun!

We finally figured out why there has been a lump in the floor in the one bedroom for 30 years. We figured that had to be where the chest of money was buried! Instead we found that there was a cement and rock foundation under that area, showing that there had been an addition to the house that pre-dated anything we had previously thought. Still no bag of money. Dang it! We did find a really old card from a Sorry! game. Hmmm...... Maybe we can sell it on e-bay!?! ;)
