Scout Camp

Spent last week at Camp Bartlett in South Eastern Utah with a group of 14 Boy Scouts.
Camp Bartlett is be tween the metropolises of Preston and Ovid....
It's really a beautiful setting. Saw deer near the lake early Tuesday morning.

Our Troop 281, Brigham City Mountain View Ward, is known as the Mountain Men. This flag was designed and painted by a very talented man from our ward.

As is typical with many boy scout camps, the camp fire was often much less than desireable.

But, occasionally, they found the right type of firewood and could really enjoy the warmth. It got very cold at night. Down into the 40's.

Thursday morning at 6:00 am, Tyler and I participated in "Polar Bear". A dive into the lake and tread water while holding the Scout Sign and repeating the Scout Oath and Law. Tyler didn't think it was all that fun. But hey, it's what "tough" guys do...

Speaking of tough, I personally opted for a step up in accomodations from the standard issue scout tent. Notice how I roughed it in a gravel parking lot, without shade or a camp fire. Now, before anyone gets too up tight, I'm not the Scout Master. He was in camp with the boys. I was "support staff". I was entitled to alternative accomodations....

As most of the boys already had their cooking merit badge, the leaders opted for the mess hall. Generally the meals were pretty good.

However, breakfast reminded us thet there was no way they were going to over feed us...

Seriously, this was breakfast.
We had a great time. Tyler earned 6 merit badges with a couple more that he will finish up over the next month. I did a lot of walking, and walking and walking. But it was good for my leg. And I got a lot of carving done on my 20 year old walking stick. I only get it out for Scout Camp.
All in all, it was a good experience and I'm sure if the option comes up to go again next year, Tyler will probably jump at the opportunity...to say "NO WAY!"
